Note # 1:
There is a discrepancy between the column and the
list under the column as to song # 3. The song
listed is This Train by The Staple Singers. It
should be This Train by Sister Rosetta Tharpe. The
excerpt from the column reads:
"The O'Jays' Love
Train is a utopian call for global unity, while
Sister Rosetta Tharpe's This Train is "bound for
glory", but not, please note, if you're a gambler or
a midnight rambler. While some gospel is generous
with its joy, this retains the stern morality of the
pulpit, rendered even more eerily potent by the
Staple Singers."
Since no one actually
recommended the Staple Singers version in the blog,
I am taking the Sister Rosetta Tharpe version as the
correct one.
Note # 2:
Dorian noted that "the volume and quality of the
recommendations calls for two B-lists" so this is
the first topic (maybe the only topic) with two B
Lists, "one featuring the most frequently seconded
nominations (well, the ones I liked anyway) and
another reflecting the more esoteric suggestions."
